1st Hirwaun Scouts is a local scouting organisation that provides young people with fun, challenging activities, outdoor adventures, and opportunities for personal growth. We focus on developing skills, teamwork, leadership, and community service.

• Where are meetings held?

Our meetings are held at 1st Hirwaun Scout Hall, Merthyr Road, Hirwaun, CF44 9PB which provides a safe and welcoming environment for all our members. Occasional outdoor meetings and activities may take place at local parks or campsites.

• What age groups do you cater to?

Beavers (6–8 years)

Cubs (8–10.5 years)

Scouts (10.5–14 years)

Explorers (14–18 years)

• What are the meeting days and times?

Joining the Scout Group

• How do I join the scout group?

• Is there a trial period before committing?

Yes! We offer a few-week trial period for new members to experience our activities before officially registering and paying membership fees.

• Can girls join?

Absolutely! Scouting is open to all, regardless of gender. Everyone is welcome to join and participate fully in all activities.

• What paperwork or forms are needed?

A completed registration form, emergency contact information, and a signed parental consent form are required. Additional medical forms may be needed for certain activities or trips.

Activities & Events

• What kind of activities do scouts participate in?

Scouts participate in a wide range of activities, including camping, hiking, community service, skills development, sports, arts and crafts, and outdoor adventures.

• How often are camps or special events held?

Camps are usually held once or twice a year, with various day trips and special events happening throughout the year. Check our [Camp Info] for more information.

• Are parents allowed to volunteer or participate?

Yes! We encourage parents to get involved. Whether it’s assisting with events, providing transportation, or volunteering as leaders, your help is always appreciated.

• How are events communicated to parents?

Membership & Fees

• What are the membership fees?

Uniform & Equipment

• What uniform is required?

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers each have distinct uniforms consisting of a shirt, neckerchief, and appropriate badges. More details are available on the [Useful Info & Section Home] pages.

• Where can I buy the uniform and equipment?

Uniforms can be purchased through official Scout shops, online, or local suppliers. Links and recommendations are provided on our website.

• Are second-hand uniforms available?

Yes, we often have second-hand uniforms available for exchange. 

• What should scouts bring to camping trips?

Safety & Policies

• What safety measures are in place during activities?

We follow strict safety guidelines, including adult supervision, first aid kits on-site, safety briefings, and adherence to health and safety policies.

• What are the child protection policies?

All leaders and volunteers are background-checked and trained in safeguarding procedures. We are committed to providing a safe environment for all members.

• Who do I contact for emergencies?

• What is the policy for bad weather or cancellations?

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, meetings may be postponed or moved indoors. Cancellations are communicated via Facebook, text, or phone.
