Friday 8:30 - 9:30
When you join Explorers, you'll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things. Here's everything you need to know.
All of our leaders are trained volunteers working to make Explorers the best it can be, but we don’t just need swashbuckling adventurers to lead our expeditions. We also need tidy-uppers and tea-makers and great listeners from all walks of life – for as much or as little time as they can spare.
Challenge Awards are all about going further. Explorers will choose something they care about, plan what they want to achieve, and follow it through over time.
Explorers form the fourth section of the Scouting movement and are managed by Districts, unlike the younger sections, which are part of individual groups.
As an Explorer Scout, you'll have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities, either with your unit or alongside other Explorers from the District or Area. These activities may include the Duke of Edinburgh Award, water- or land-based adventures, and continuing your journey through the Scouting progressive award scheme, including the Young Leaders’ Scheme.
Master something you love, or try something shiny and new. If it spurs you on or stirs your interest, we’ve probably got a badge for it.
From caps and backpacks to water bottles and blanket badges to celebrate your adventures, we have it all. Personalise your items so they don't get lost!

ESYLs are Explorer Scouts who volunteer alongside our adult volunteers in a Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop.
Explorer uniform consists of a shirt with your badges sewn on and a necker to represent your local group.
Uniform can either be bought from Scout Store or from a local supplier. You can also, if you're stuck, ask adult volunteers to tell you more, they will be more than happy to help.
Once they’ve had time to settle in to the group, Explorers get their own set of uniform to wear during meetings and on trips away.
Usually, this consists of a beige shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, which they pair with their Unit scarf – if they’re an independent Unit - or Group scarf, if their Unit is merged with a Scout Troop.
To be invested as a Explorer you'll have to learn the Explorers Law & Promise and it's always handy to know our motto!
Eventually, it’ll be time to say farewell to Explorers and embrace your next big adventure.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a life-changing experience. Through your unique DofE programme, you can discover new talents, develop essential skills for life and have fun with friends.
